BUILD A PROCESS
Respond to dehydration with ADH
Build the feedback route controlling water recovery.
Build a process
Use the up and down buttons to build the sequence, then check your reasoning. Some biological events overlap; follow the simplified pathway described here.
- 1Less water is lost in urine
- 2Collecting ducts become more water-permeable
- 3ADH release increases
- 4Osmoreceptors detect the change
- 5Blood osmolarity rises
Read the complete pathway
- Blood osmolarity rises. Water loss can concentrate dissolved solutes.
- Osmoreceptors detect the change. Hypothalamic receptors respond to osmotic conditions.
- ADH release increases. ADH is made in the hypothalamus and released from the posterior pituitary.
- Collecting ducts become more water-permeable. Aquaporin insertion increases recovery if an osmotic gradient is present.
- Less water is lost in urine. Concentrated urine conserves water and reduces the disturbance.
Explain what you observed
Does ADH mainly increase filtration?
