BUILD A PROCESS

Trace a secreted protein

Follow the endomembrane route.

Build a process

Use the up and down buttons to build the sequence, then check your reasoning. Some biological events overlap; follow the simplified pathway described here.

  1. 1
    Secretory vesicle fusion
  2. 2
    Golgi modification and sorting
  3. 3
    Transport vesicle to Golgi
  4. 4
    Translation at rough ER
  5. 5
    Transcription in the nucleus
Read the complete pathway
  1. Transcription in the nucleus. RNA is produced and processed before export.
  2. Translation at rough ER. A signal sequence directs the secretory protein into the ER.
  3. Transport vesicle to Golgi. Membrane vesicles move the new protein.
  4. Golgi modification and sorting. The Golgi sorts proteins for their destinations.
  5. Secretory vesicle fusion. Exocytosis releases the contents outside the cell.
